Indigenous Tourism: How to Partner with Indigenous Communities

This free 30-minute mini-course provides participants with insights into the world of Indigenous tourism and an understanding of how travel businesses can support and collaborate with Indigenous communities. Course instructors, all members of the Indigenous Tourism Collaborative of the Americas (ITCA), guide participants through the current state of Indigenous tourism, highlighting the partnership opportunities available for travel organizers. We'll also share practical tips on how to find tribes to partner with and, more importantly, how to form lasting and respectful working relationships with Indigenous communities.

GW International Institute of Tourism Studies partnered with G Adventures and the Planeterra Foundation to develop Indigenous People and the Travel Industry: Global Good Practice Guidelines, intended for use by travel companies working with Indigenous communities around the world.

The guidelines are designed to encourage responsible conduct and good business practices that protect the interests of Indigenous communities and travel companies, as well as produce authentic, respectful, and rewarding visitor experiences.
